The Zerosum Oni Tenkara Honryu rods in both the 395 and 450 lengths are considered some of the finest in the world. It only makes sense that Nissin would continue their collaboration with Tenkara Master, Mr. Masami Sakakibara AKA “Tenkara no Oni” for other rods in the series. They continue the line of excellence with the 295 and 345 models.
Both rods carry on the excellent characteristics discerning Tenkara anglers look for. Balance is nice and the rods light in the hand. Straight tracking with limited oscillation allows for accurate and delicate placement of your kebari on technical, and of course not so technical, waters. Both the 295 and 345 can cast a variety of lines Anglers will probably like a 3.5 level line best on the 345 and 3.0-3.5 best on the 295. Naturally opinions will vary. Other line types such as furled lines will depend on construction and composition of the line for what works best.
Nissin’s 7:3 designation is really more of a 6:4 from what Tenkara anglers have come to know in the US. We would describe the 345 on the slightly stronger side of that rating with the 295 on the slightly softer side. This makes the 345 a very versatile rod in its category. The 295 fits very well within smaller streams that all variety of fish can still be found, while still offering a versatile rod to handle them.
Most Japanese rods do not come with a rod tube. These rods are the exception and what a rod tube it is! Very nice and can easily support 3 rods. Hard sided with a soft cover. It’s an unexpected but appreciative addition, further adding to the value. The complete package comes with rod, rod sock and rod case.
